Wonderful Weekend

This weekend was a very special woman's birthday. It was hub's meemaw's birthday! She requested that everyone go to church with her Sunday morning, followed by a birthday get together. So, that's what we did!

Sunday morning we woke up bright and early, got ready for church, then drove 40 minutes to attend the 9am church service. There were so many of us that we took up 2 pews! It was amazing! Then, we drove out to the family land out in the middle of nowhere (seriously) and grilled out, rode 4 wheelers (there were 4 there!), shot guns, played games outside, and played a game inside. It was the most fun we've all had in quite some time! I know she enjoyed it and so did the rest of us.

Also, I made my first decorated cake. It was 2 tiers of French Vanilla cake with Buttercream Icing. It tasted really good and didn't look too badly either! I really need to practice on my writing though. :) Cake decorating is a lot of work - it took me 3.5 hours from start to finish! Plus, I made brownies, too! I took a picture of the cake with my phone...so you can't really tell what the designs on top are.... ooops.

How was ya'lls weekend?
Edited to Add: I made the Buttercream Icing - even the blue icing. That jar that you see has stiff consistency icing that I used to secure the cake to the board. So, yes I had a powdered sugar mess all over my kitchen :)

Cake Decorating

The above pictures are from my cake decorating class last Thursday. Those are different types of flowers. I know they're a tad difficult to make out, but honestly, they're not all that bad.

I missed the previous week's class due to having the stomach virus. Truth be told, I don't really want to do this class anymore. The night before I started getting sick, I was making a cake and homemade icing for class. Now, the thought of cake or icing makes me want to gag. But, I went to class last week anyways. It wasn't entirely too bad considering I bought cupcakes from Kroger and scraped the icing off of those - to avoid baking cupcakes for class to decorate on. Plus, my lovely sister made my icing for me.

This week, however, my family wont be at class and so I'll be on my own. I'd love to just skip out, but this is the last class and it's the "big" cake. I'm thinking I'll suck it up and go, just to see what my cake will look like once decorated.

There are already talks of taking the next level course, but I've already told my family that I do NOT want to do this class. These classes take a ton of work - baking goods, making tons of icing, going to the store each week for new decorating utensils that we'll need, then sitting 2 hours in class. I just don't want to do it.

A Star Is Born

Last night was my first cake decorating class. We learned how to make icing, change the consistency of our icing, how to make layers with our cakes, how to add filling in between the layers, and how to make stars. I didn't completely master the stars, but I did pretty decent for a first timer! If you look closely, you can see that each individual dot is a star. Kinda. :) Work with me here!

Anyways, those are my 6 sugar cookies that we decorated in class. I took a picture before carrying them home - just in case some were ruined in transit. Luckily, they all made it home safe and sound. I jumped around like a kid on a sugar high as hubs opened the container and examined my work! He then took a bite of one of the cookies and said that it tasted really good. Now, let it be known that he told me before I went to class that he hated sugar cookies. Well, I guess I proved him wrong on that - he loves my sugar cookies! ha!
Next week we're to bring a cake in to decorate. This should prove interesting...
I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Something I've Been Working On...

Ya'll may not know this about me, but I LOVE to edit photos. LOVE it. So, I've been working on a project/gift for my sister for a while now. Here's a little sneak peak:

I wish I could tell ya'll more, but I wont be able to until it's completed and in her hands. Ya know, just in case she reads this thing.
What do ya'll think about the picture? In case you couldn't tell, they're standing in the hallway of an Old Navy dressing room.
