Cake Decorating

The above pictures are from my cake decorating class last Thursday. Those are different types of flowers. I know they're a tad difficult to make out, but honestly, they're not all that bad.

I missed the previous week's class due to having the stomach virus. Truth be told, I don't really want to do this class anymore. The night before I started getting sick, I was making a cake and homemade icing for class. Now, the thought of cake or icing makes me want to gag. But, I went to class last week anyways. It wasn't entirely too bad considering I bought cupcakes from Kroger and scraped the icing off of those - to avoid baking cupcakes for class to decorate on. Plus, my lovely sister made my icing for me.

This week, however, my family wont be at class and so I'll be on my own. I'd love to just skip out, but this is the last class and it's the "big" cake. I'm thinking I'll suck it up and go, just to see what my cake will look like once decorated.

There are already talks of taking the next level course, but I've already told my family that I do NOT want to do this class. These classes take a ton of work - baking goods, making tons of icing, going to the store each week for new decorating utensils that we'll need, then sitting 2 hours in class. I just don't want to do it.

Catching Up

As you may have noticed, I didn't post much last week. I woke up Thursday morning with the worst headache I'd had in a long time, so I called into work. Around 9am, I started vomiting. Let's just say that I moved the bathroom trashcan near the couch and I literally was unable to leave the couch all day and night Thursday. Friday, I started having another lovely symptom but was able to eat some soup. So, I guess I had the stomach virus that everyone seems to be getting? I was so sick that I lost 4 pounds in one day. It was awful.

So today, I'll be trying to get caught up at work. I've never in my life taken 2 sick days consecutively. I'll be back to my blogging self soon!

A Star Is Born

Last night was my first cake decorating class. We learned how to make icing, change the consistency of our icing, how to make layers with our cakes, how to add filling in between the layers, and how to make stars. I didn't completely master the stars, but I did pretty decent for a first timer! If you look closely, you can see that each individual dot is a star. Kinda. :) Work with me here!

Anyways, those are my 6 sugar cookies that we decorated in class. I took a picture before carrying them home - just in case some were ruined in transit. Luckily, they all made it home safe and sound. I jumped around like a kid on a sugar high as hubs opened the container and examined my work! He then took a bite of one of the cookies and said that it tasted really good. Now, let it be known that he told me before I went to class that he hated sugar cookies. Well, I guess I proved him wrong on that - he loves my sugar cookies! ha!
Next week we're to bring a cake in to decorate. This should prove interesting...
I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Almost Crafty

We've been trying to get our house ready to sell. So, part of this weekend was spent moving things such as an elliptical, bowflex, and a love seat into storage. Ya'll my T-Rex arms were really put to use! And, as I dropped my end of the love seat in the front yard, hubs might've told me it was time to hit the gym! ha!

Anyways, I've been trying to make our house look more like a home and less like an oversize storage building. I'm not even kidding. So, to make the front room look bigger, we decided to take the love seat out of it. What did we put in it's place? A cute little book shelf that was in one of the spare bedrooms.

Before (picture taken last year):

You can kinda tell in this picture... When you open the door, you were greeted by the love seat and our wireless surround sound thing-a-bob.

Now (taken with my iPhone at 5am this morning.):

Now, I know it's nothing huge, but I'm very proud of myself. I didn't have to buy one single thing! Now, let me explain the items a little bit.
  • The bowl on top was a wedding gift. I'm looking for something bold and red to put in it. Hubs wanted to put our keys in it, but I'm afraid it will chip the bowl. It has a really neat shape and due to the lighting and the poor quality of the photo, you can't tell that.
  • We're planning on taking our DVD collection and storing it while the house is listed. We have well over 200 DVD's. So, my thoughts were, lets take the BluRays and display them here so that we'll at least have those while we're trying to sell the house.
  • The T monogram was a wedding gift that we haven't had the opportunity to display until now. I love it!
  • The leather box in the middle was a Hobby Lobby steal from a few weeks back. Originally $40 marked down to $13. It holds all of our random running stuff.
  • A few cookbooks. I have about 15 cookbooks and these are the ones that I'd like to keep out, in case the others go into storage.
  • Our wedding album. I thought it needed something to "balance" the bottom shelf out and for now, this is going to be the balancer.
I also took the wireless surround sound thing-a-bob down as well. I thought it looked too distracting. So, there you have it! Just a little something I worked on this weekend for a few minutes. As things progress, I'll show ya'll some more pictures. And yes, we're still working on that bathroom! ha!

TGIF!!!

Today, I'm so happy that it's Friday! I know it was a short week and all, but I've been in vacation mode (still) all week.

I wish I was back here. Funny story: Hubs and I tried kayaking in the ocean while in Mexico. We'd always wanted to try it, so we did. Well, ya'll know I'm uncoordinated - seriously, I can't do the whole rub your tummy and pat your head thing. It's that bad.

Anyways, I ended up smacking hub's feet, his paddle, and his leg with my paddle. Ya'll I'm a horrible paddler. Finally, he just told me to stop trying to help because I was making it worse! Hey, I didn't have a problem with that! Needless to say, he said that we wouldn't be attempting this again (such a lie!!). But, wouldn't you know, we have a camping and canoeing trip planned in late July! I guess I couldn't have been that bad! Or maybe he's planning on putting me in someone else's boat?

Race Photo

Remember the 5k I ran about 3 weeks ago? That's my "official" finish line photo. You could tell I was breathing a little hard from my sprint. I love to see these photos, but what bugs me is the time clock in the background is never correct since I seem to start in the middle to end of the pack. If you'll remember, my official time was 34:47. If only I knew how to photoshop that... ha! Btw, I did happen to borrow this picture off of their site. :) I love how I look super tall against the other chick. Makes me feel happy since I always feel short standing next to others!
